To clean my 17-mach 2 barrel in the field or at the range, I use a length of 50 LB test braided nylon fishing line. Feed the line down the barrel until it comes out the other end, tie an appropriate size patch to the end of the line with a double loop knot, about 3"above the patch tie a second patch using the same kind of knot. Put a drop of powder solvent on the first patch to enter the barrel, leave the second patch dry. Pull the string through the barrel, the first patch cleans the powder from the barrel the second patch wipes it clean. This procedure is quick and you don't have to worry about scratching the bore with a cleaning rod. A spool of braided nylon will last a very long time.
