Tip: to see if that drop of red on the forest floor is really blood, carry a small spray bottle of peroxide. It will foam when it hits blood. It also takes all the blood out of our clothes once you need to get them cleaned up (& always wash out blood with cold water).
For every shot you take at an animal assume you hit it and follow up by going to where the animal was and following it. Many animals die later and are wasted by unscrupulous hunters who assume they didn't hit it if it didn't drop in its tracks.
