Foxhounds

A distinct type of Foxhound is recognized, rangier and faster than the English Foxhound. Used for much the same purpose, running foxes to horse, a sport much indulged in the South where the fox is rarely shot but rather run to end with the dogs.

Foxhounds weigh about 50 pounds, height is 24 inches. The foxhounds are generally tri-colored, but black and tan is often encountered. Foxhounds are generally even tempered, making excellent pets due to the fact that they easily bond with the people around them and get along with other family pets.

One consideration before getting a foxhound is the breeds need for space. The foxhound is bread for speed and endurance, they need a large are to run and “play” in, and regular exercise is a necessity for a healthy dog. People living in apartments and “in town” should shy away from the Foxhound.
